Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) Certification

For Ontario workplaces with 20 or more employees, Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) Certification is a legal requirement under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Our two-part program gives committee members the knowledge and tools to build a safer workplace.

Certification Pathway

Part 2 must be completed within 12 months of completing Part 1.

PART ONE – ONLINE LEARNING

JHSC Certification – Part 1

The first step toward JHSC compliance. Completed entirely online at your own pace, this course gives committee members the foundational knowledge to support and promote workplace safety.

Topics Covered

Understanding legislation, including rights and responsibilities of workplace parties
Roles and responsibilities of Joint Health and Safety Committees
The Internal Responsibility System (IRS) and its role in workplace safety
Development and implementation of health and safety policies and programs
Hazard identification, assessment, and control

  • Certificate of Completion issued by Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD)

PART TWO – DISTANCE LEARNING

JHSC Certification – Part 2

The advanced step toward full certification. This two-day live online course builds on Part 1 with industry-specific hazard assessments and practical tools to address real workplace risks.

Prerequisite

Joint Health and Safety Certificate Part 1 must be completed within the past 12 months. If more than 12 months have passed, Part 1 must be retaken.

Interactive sessions with instructors and peers

Refresher Required

Refresher training is required every 3 years to maintain full JHSC certification.

Joint Health & Safety Certifcation (JHSC) Refresher Course

Mandatory Ontario Ministry of Labour renewal is required every three years to keep certified members current with updated safety standards.
