How To Become An Instructor
Interested in becoming a First Aid and CPR Instructor?
First Aid 4U offers quality Instructor Training and our experienced Instructor Trainers run leadership courses across Ontario. Once certified, you can apply to teach for various existing Training Partners throughout Canada.
Course Prerequisites:
- Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR level C/AED certificate
- Successful completion of your Skills Check (mandatory scheduled date)
- Successful completion of the 8 Hour Online Module (sent after completion of your skills check)
- 18 years of age or older
To successfully complete the Instructor Course:
- Attend a Skills Check Session before the course. All skills meet the Red Cross Standards. This is a 4 hour component which will be specified in the dates you select.
- Attend 100% of the course – all four days, 9am-5pm, often over two weekends.
- Complete any pre-course assignments as required by your Instructor Trainer.
- Successful completion of the course which involves practice teaching, course assignments and a final written test.
- Demonstrate an ability to teach safe, fun and interactive courses.
- Complete an online module as preparation for the teaching experience.
- Successfully complete a co-teach (up to 3 attempts) in a Standard First Aid and CPR level C/AED course with a Teaching Experience Supervisor (lesson plan required).

The Standard First Aid & CPR level C refresher I completed at 700 Industrial Avenue was absolutely excellent. I have enrolled in a large number of similar courses over the years and many have been delivered in a dry, canned, and methodical manner. This course, though, was anything but. Longtime instructor David Smith adopted the perfect blend of detailed information, humour, personal experiences, and practical application hints, and I came away feeling my day had been exceptionally well spent.

We had what felt like a comprehensive and insightful class on CPR. Our wonderful instructor, Dave, ensured we learned the importance of giving aid and identifying when and what to do in different situations.

First of all, I am very lucky to have received first aid training there because the instructor was a wonderfully knowledgeable person, his jokes were funny and he conveyed the training in an academic way. Hawley is an excellent teacher. His knowledge base is solid in material and plenty of real life stories to pass on of the dangers of life and how quickly an emergency happens.

Outstanding instructor, Hawley Lepine. After attending first aid courses many times over the years, this was the first time when I (and everyone else attending the course) was riveted and you could hear a pin drop when the instructor spoke. He underscored important points in the course by peppering it with vivid real life suspenseful first aid stories, and a healthy dose of humour. Students were coached closely in the practical portion of the course to ensure they were successful. for e.g. application of CPR & AED, as well as splints and slings. Highly recommend this instructor and hope he is available when I am required to take my refresher.

My First time and experience with Judy for First Aid and CPR and let me tell you. It was the most hands on, interactive and best class I have ever been to. I completed the standard first aid/ car and AED training at the Mississauga facility, and it was a wonderful experience. Trainer made sure everyone was following the entire time, and although the material to cover was a lot, he made it enjoyable. would highly recommend.

Instructor David is amazing and makes learning the material fun. He makes the most of all the material he has to teach, he involves the whole class, asks for volunteers and what I liked the most is on the second day (if you take the two day in class) if that he has a jeopardy like game that you get to practice what you learnt the previous day. This really helped for the test at the end of day two. Thank you David for a surprisingly fun two days of relearning CPR/FIRST AID.

(David Smith) I recently completed the Standard First Aid & CPR Level C course by 2nd shat, bec my first day was to boring and wasn't feeling well but, i learned a lot from those days for me amazing teaching with a new instructor again Mr David Smith has different way to teach a student he knows i get a good potential, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn life-saving skills. Hawley ( the instructor) is a beauty, he cares a lot and makes it interesting! You're in for some good stories if you are blessed enough to get him as an instructor.

The class was intensive. The instructor knows his game very well. However, I would like to suggest, being a professional teacher myself, that intermittent short breaks would be helpful for students/participants to refresh a bit. I felt, like other students very tired at a point and some other participants expressed the same sentiments. This is a humble suggestion though.Thank you.

Excellent, welcoming, personable, accommodating and knowledgeable instructor.The company has issues with admin. Advertised time for my course was 9-1. The first thing we were told in the classroom was 9-2. Also my certificate did not come as promised so I had to email and phone to receive it.

He often gave examples of real-life scenarios that he’s found himself in, or situations in which our training could play out in the real world. Our class was really interactive. I took First Aid & CPR/AED Level C many years ago, around 2010, and aside from the gap in time/evolving knowledge, I learned more about the same topics now than I did back then! It has been very beneficial to me. I have Learned plenty of things that will help me in my everyday life learning what to do when people need first aid assistance whether in workplaces. The course was very easy to understand and learn. The instructor, Catherine, was a great teacher and made lessons very engaging with video lessons, explanations, and live demonstrations. Additionally, we were provided with all the necessary materials we needed in order to practice our newly acquired skills and abilities. I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in learning or getting certified in cpr.
The instructor was David Smyth, he is amazing and so knowledgeable. This is the third time I do my training with Red Cross but I can tell this time was the best. Thank you

My daughter and I just finished our first aid course with Rayani.I just wanted to let you know that this was the best first aid course I’ve ever taken. I have taken at least six other first aid courses in the pass once from your school five or six years ago, and he is absolutely the best instructor I’ve ever had. He’s very engaging, he’s very supportive. He’s very helpful. He’s very friendly by the end of the course I felt like all the other students were my friends. He listen to our stories he supported us. Fantastic training from Rayan Afsar! It was my second time having a class with this trainer and it was great both times. Rayan is very informative while also connecting with anecdotes and jokes to keep the class engaged. I left the class with no unanswered questions, feeling very confident in my abilities to provide care in an emergency situation.

Mageb, who taught us in Vaughan, in Apr. 2023, did a great job teaching us. Being a trained physician in his home country came through by exhibiting his professional knowledge. However, he also did it in a light, almost entertaining manner which made the educational experience less cumbersome.
Just completed a 2 day course with Smitty........ awesome experience. David is an amazing instructor and I'm so thankful for the knowledge and experiences that he shared with all of us. Smitty is one of the best instructors I have ever interacted with. Not only was he informative, he knew how to keep us engaged and interested in all the content. I know that anytime I am needing to get any certifications, I'm going to ask if Smitty is the one teaching!

Ashraf was a great instructor who was serious yet personable in his delivery of the practical component of my blended First-Aid/CPR/AED course. I ended up needing to put my training to use just days after having completed the course and was able to act quickly and effectively to assist an injured colleague.While the entities aren't directly related, my only complaint about the program has been the finicky/temperamental Red Cross website. Accessing certifications, course information and profile details has been - at best - annoying.
Passed my standard first aid and cpr at the Robertson rd location in Ottawa!!Josh was an amazing teacher. He took the time to work through problems or questions the class had. He allowed us to build confidence in our abilities to save a life. He is going to make a great doctor. Thank you very much!

I have been taking first aid courses at different places in Ottawa over the past 12 years and by far First Aid 4 U is the best. The teaching technique, and the way the information is given makes the course really enjoyable. The stories and real life experience shared during the course helped me retain most of the information taught. A big thank you to Hauley who is by far the best instructor I've ever had the pleasure to meet and learn from. I will be back for sure.

Such an amazing experience. Had so much fun and learned a lot of valuable information that could help me help someone in the future. I am definitely more confident now to walk up to someone and help them. Our instructor Mr. Hawley was amazing and very helpful and we learned a lot from his past stories and experiences.
The Brampton instructor is the best. He makes learning fun and easy. If you listen to the instructor (which is his #1 rule) you will pass with flying colours. Thank you Aurangzeb you were GREAT!My only issues are they need to invest in a Bluetooth speaker as the laptop volume isn't loud enough and a bigger tv would be nice.

An amazing experience. These instructors really know medical knowledge. I met a firefighter and a nurse through my training courses.
In class portion:- Good instructor.- It would be better if the TV was the appropriate size to see the presentation, or if used a projector allowing a wide screen.Online portion:- Well designed.- It would be better if it provide a summary of main points for each chapter allowing the student a quick refresh about them.
The course and instructor were good. After the course was completed I’ve started to receive emails stating that they hadn’t received my payment. I contacted them, clarified that they had my payment, and received by email, a copy of the invoice indicating that it was paid in full. Since, I receive an email monthly stating I still haven’t paid, each to which I reply with the receipt, marked “paid”, attached. It is impossible to speak with a person when you call in. It goes to voicemail every time. Disorganized, and to be honest, the emails are rude, stating how it’s problematic that I haven’t paid them, and that it’s an urgent matter. If I had rated immediately after taking the course, it would have been 4-5 stars, but based on the nonsense that has followed, I just can’t. Sorry everyone….get it together.
