Course Overview
Our MHFA program is offered as both virtual and in-person training options, giving you the flexibility to choose the format that works best for your group. Led by certified instructor Jason Alderson, this program is delivered in collaboration with the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

Course Format
Course Availability
Currently In-person training is only available in the Ottawa Region, we can however accommodate Virtual training across Canada. Generally, we can accommodate training requests with 4-6 weeks notice.
Self-Directed Learning
**Must be completed one week before the instructor-led course start date**
1 – 2 hours, reading and quiz through an online portal
Module 1 Overview:
- Introduction to the course
- Introduction to MHFA actions
Complete this module through an online portal before the instructor-led sessions.
Instructor-Led Training
**Must complete the self-directed module one week before starting these modules**
Both sessions are 3.5-hours or can be combined for a full day.
Module 2 Overview:
- Practice applying MHFA actions to situations of declining mental well-being
- Guidelines for MHFA conversations with people from diverse cultures and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community
Module 3 Overview:
- Discussion on using MHFA actions for self-care.
- Practice using MHFA actions in crisis situations.
More Details:
The mandatory minimum group size is 10 for us to run a course. The maximum size will vary based on format; Virtually the maximum is 15, and in-person 25.
Participants that complete the Mental Health First Aid course receive certification from the Mental Health Commission of Canada.
