Course Overview

Our MHFA program is offered as both virtual and in-person training options, giving you the flexibility to choose the format that works best for your group. Led by certified instructor Jason Alderson, this program is delivered in collaboration with the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

Course Format


Self-Directed Learning

(1-2 hours)

Complete this module through an online portal before the instructor-led sessions.

Introduction to Mental Health First Aid and core actions.


Instructor-Led Training

(Both sessions are 3.5-hours or can be combined for a full day)


  • Module 1:
  • Practice applying MHFA actions in situations of declining mental well-being. Learn how to engage in conversations with diverse communities, including 2SLGBTQ+ populations.

  • Module 2:
  • Learn to use MHFA actions for self-care and practice crisis response skills.

Course sizes are 10 – 15 for the virtual course and 10 – 25 for the In-Person course.

Both versions can be done in one day or broken up into two 3.5 hour blocks to be completed within 2 weeks

Participants that complete the Mental Health First Aid course receive certification from the Mental Health Commission of Canada.
