What’s in It for You
Becoming a First Aid Instructor isn’t just about delivering lessons — it’s about empowering people with the confidence to act in the moments that matter most. Every course you teach helps make someone’s workplace, school, or community safer.
But the impact goes beyond your students. Teaching First Aid and CPR also builds your own leadership, communication, and coaching skills — qualities that transfer to every area of life and work.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to expand your professional toolkit, instructor certification offers:
- Purpose-driven work — know that what you teach could save a life
- A flexible teaching schedule — evenings, weekends, or part-time alongside other roles
- Professional development — gain experience in public speaking, facilitation, and group management
- A respected credential — Red Cross Instructor Certifications are recognized across Canada, within the Canadian Red Cross’s official training network of Training Partners.
- Opportunities to earn — teach through a training partner network
Plus, you’ll be joining a growing group of instructors making an impact every day. With a network of 35 training locations across Ontario, we’ve helped more than 300,000 individuals gain essential skills in first aid, CPR, workplace safety, and more. This is real, hands-on teaching — with real-world impact.

Your Path to Certification
Becoming a certified Red Cross Instructor is a structured, supportive process — and you won’t be doing it alone. From your first Skills Check to teaching your first class (and beyond), we’ll be with you every step of the way, including ongoing mentorship, teaching resources, and access to a trusted training network.
Here’s what your journey looks like:
- Skills Check Session
Before your course begins, you’ll attend a 4-hour in-person skills check to ensure your First Aid & CPR skills meet Red Cross Standards. - Instructor Course (4 Days)
You’ll complete four full days of in-person training — often spread over two weekends — led by an experienced Instructor Trainer. During this course, you’ll:
- Complete pre-course assignments
- Build lesson plans
- Practice teaching in a supportive environment
- Receive feedback and support throughout
- Online Learning
You’ll complete a short online module to help prepare you for your first teaching experience. - Teaching Experience (Co-Teach)
You’ll lead a real Standard First Aid & CPR course with one of our certified Teaching Experience Supervisors. Most candidates complete their co-teach in 1–3 attempts — and after that, you’re ready to teach on your own.
Are you the one?
You don’t need to be a paramedic or a professional speaker to become a great instructor. If you’re passionate about helping others, confident communicating, and ready to learn, this path could be the perfect fit.
Our most successful instructors tend to:
- Enjoy teaching or coaching others
- Stay organized and prepared
- Communicate clearly in front of small groups
- Want to make a real impact in their community
- Appreciate flexible work they can shape around their life
Whether you’re a student, educator, healthcare worker, or someone looking to grow professionally, you bring the drive — we’ll provide the training.
