INSTRUCTOR TRANSFER

Already a Certified Instructor or Educator?

If you are currently a certified first aid or CPR instructor trained through another recognized organization, you may be eligible to transfer your instructor certification and continue teaching under the Canadian Red Cross through First Aid 4U.

The Canadian Red Cross offers a transfer pathway from other WSIB approved organizations and certified teachers. Depending on which transfer pathway you are eligible for will decide which portion of the course you are exempt from.

i

Prerequisites

All candidates must hold a current, valid Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR Level C/AED certificate and must be 18 years of age or older prior to enrolling in any instructor transfer pathway.

How to Transfer Your Instructor Credentials

Transfer Options

Select the option that best describes your background to see your eligibility and transfer pathway.

Eligibility — Option 1

  • Currently certified as a first aid or CPR instructor through a recognized organization (e.g. St. John Ambulance)
  • Active delivery experience teaching first aid or CPR courses
  • Hold a valid Canadian Red Cross certificate in the discipline you intend to teach

If you are currently certified through a recognized national first aid training agency, you may enter the Instructor Development Program at your current level — with one exemption: the Discipline-Specific Classroom Component (Days 3 and 4) is not required.

Option 1: Transfer Pathway

1

2

Fundamentals of Instruction

An online component followed by a 2-day in-class session (9 AM–5 PM each day). The online portion must be completed prior to attending. Full participation in both components is required. Online ~6–8 hours, self-paced

Candidates teach a minimum of one 2-day course. The full teaching experience may extend up to 6 days depending on competency assessment. A course observation is recommended but not required.

6

Certification & Post-Course Requirements
